BICYCLE TOUR IN TUSCANY

October 3 – 11 - 2008

Cycle Tuscany - cycling along enchanted medieval villages and towns, discovering the healing waters of the hot springs, enjoying centuries of art, and eating and drinking the best food and wine in Europe. The cycling on this tour is moderate.
Our longest day is not more than 27 miles.
Our goal is not only to cycle but to absorb the rich and romantic flavor of one of the most beautiful areas of Italy.

 

Day 1: Departure from USA


Day 2:

Arrival in Rome and transfer for 2 and half hours to Bagno Vignoni, in this beautiful 16c country villa, which will be our residence for the next 4 days. Accommodation in apart- ments: sharing living room with fire place, kitchen, and facilities. Dinner at the villa.

Day 3 :

After breakfast we start our first bike tour to Pienza, jewel of Renaissance art and home Of Pope Pius II, time at leisure for lunch or wine and cheese tasting on your own. Early afternoon meet with our local English speaking guide for a sightseeing tour of the village, then return to the villa by bike. Welcome dinner in a restaurant. Total miles 24.

 

Day 4 :

Breakfast and departure by bike to Montalcino exquisite medieval town, with a 13c fortress overlooking the valleys surrounding. This town is well known for the “Brunello” wine since the time of the Medici family. Time to stroll then continue by bike to Castelnuovo dell’Abate for wine tasting, and light lunch. Afternoon time to visit the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Return to the villa by minibus and dinner. Total miles 25.

Day 5 :

Breakfast and departure by bike to the National park of Lucciobella in the Orcia valley, Part of Unesco preserved heritage in the world. Photos opportunities, and time for lunch on your own in Bagno Vignoni. Afternoon time at the hot springs to relax, swim and enjoy these mineral waters. Return to the villa by bike and dinner. Total miles 26.

 

Day 6:

Today we travel by coach to the famous Chianti area, stopping in Siena one of the best preserved medieval town in Italy. Walking sightseeing tour of Siena with our English speaking guide and time for lunch and shopping. Afternoon we will visit a private cooking school and learn all the secret of the ancient Tuscan cuisine. After dinner we arrive to our next villa in the Merse valley.

 

Day 7:

After breakfast, we are back on ours bikes to visit Chiusdino, a beautiful medieval village which Overlooks S Galgano Abbey. Continue to Monticiano, located in the middle of the valley of the River Farma and Merse. Here you will have time for lunch and then back to the villa for dinner. Total miles 26

 

Day 8 :

Breakfast and depart for San Gimignano as well known as the town of the beautiful towers, because there are still 13 towers standing since the 11 and 12c. Here we will have time for lunch, shopping and sightseeing tour with our guide. Return to the villa by minibus. Dinner at the villa. Total miles 31  

Day 9:

Early departure to Rome airport in time to take your flight home or extend to visit the Eternal city of Rome.
