DAY 1
USA – QUITO, ECUADOR
Arrival in Quito, capital city of Ecuador with an altitude of 9200 ft. Transfer to your Bed & Breakfast hotel and overnight.
DAY 2
QUITO CITY TOUR – EQUATORIAL LINE
After breakfast let’s have fun and learn about theory, experiment as water test and balance the egg on the equator line, ethnographic museum of Inti Nan.
Lunch suggested at the San Francisco Plaza in the Tianguez local food casual restaurant.
Then walk in the old district of Quito by the independence square, La Compañia Golden Church and more highlights. Welcome Dinner and overnight in Quito.
DAY 3
QUITO – NONO BICYCLE – MINDO CLOUDFOREST
Start 8h00 am. Drive to Nono (1 hour) and descending on the mountain bike from the western top of the Andes down to the cloud forest trough a scenic countryside dirt road, fields of local corn crops, eucalyptus forest and the transition between the Andean temperate climates to the subtropical cloud forest climate (you could occasionally experience sun and mist). Everybody, says hello in the area, experience the Latin friendly culture. Stop for a box lunch.
Keep driving to Mindo Cloud forest town on a dirt - paved road, over 1600 meters. We get to Mindo located by the Choco Bioreserve, dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in a campsite close to town.
DAY 4
TUBING IN MINDO RIVER OR BIRDWATCH – HIKE TO THE WATERFALL OF PAHUMA - QUITO
Start 9h00 am. Feel the adrenaline going downstream on the Mindo River (temperate-fresh water).
El Chef local suggested restaurant for your lunch.
Two hours round trip hike in the Cloud forest to the waterfall of Pahuma and then visit the Orchid Reserve.
Return back to Quito; dinner and overnight.
DAY 5
QUITO – OTAVALO MARKET – BICYCLE - COTOCACHI
Early departure this morning to experience the local folklore and handicrafts Indian market of one the most ancient native culture of the country (since 3000 years). Practice Spanish before going to the market, (we do Spanish and bargaining practical lessons to deal with the venders and shop at the markets). Time on your own for lunch, great restaurant near the market; and then bicycle from the sacred Lechero Tree trough the scenic countryside, fertile green valleys all year long. On the way we stop at the musician Fichamba Family House and dinner. Tonight the accommodation could be a nice break cabin for two people, with fireplace, private bathroom in the native communities or a bed & breakfast hotel in the Cotacachi (leather manufacturing) town.
DAY 6
COTOCACHI - CUICOCHA CRATELAKE - QUITO
Start 8 am. Five Ecuadorian hours hike (according to your shape and acclimation of 3000 meters - 11000 ft average altitude) on top of an active volcano crater trails loop circuit. Scenic picture of the Andean Paramo and flora ecosystem. Box lunch or lunch in a local restaurant where you can taste the typical gastronomy of a roasted guinea pig.
Drive back to Quito for about two hours though the scenic canyon of the Pisque river canyon. Dinner and overnight in Quito.
DAY 7
QUITO – CHIMBORAZO – BICYCLE VOLCANO - BANOS
Start 7h30am. Drive between 3-4 hours from Quito to the southern Andes among the Avenue of the Volcanoes on the adventurous Pan-American highway, taking pictures of the active volcanoes in both of the slopes of the Andes, maybe Tungurahua Volcano is smoking. Climb for two hours to the refuge of the Chimborazo Faunistic Reserve (spotting wild vicuñas-llamas), snacks provided to keep up with the altitude and respiration exercise.
And now is when we get ready for the biking downhill from 4.800 meters, 15.800 ft down to San Juan town. Experience the cold wind descending the largest volcano in Ecuador (21000 ft. – 6310 meters) on a dirt road and little portion on the paved road (we provide all the equipment) (just bring a face protection for the cold climate, sunglasses, and rain gear). Once downhill we drive to Baños. Dinner at the best restaurant in Baños: Marianne a good French, Mediterranean and steaks cuisine. Overnight in Banos.
DAY 8
BANOS - Triathlon biking 18km(1hour and a half) - hiking (1 hour and half) - rafting (1 hour and a half)
Start 08h30 am. Bike from Baños town going mainly down hill, by the Pastaza river Canyon, Agoyan hydroelectric plant, on the way the road location of the movie Proof of Live (Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe), little bumps to go up and passing trough dark tunnels, right by the cliff of the canyon and beautiful avenue of the waterfalls.
Hike downhill from Rio Verde Town, steep 30 degrees, dirt trail, gravely, hanging bridge capacity 5 people at the time to admire the join of the Pastaza River and the Verde River.
Some drive and rafting instructions by the Pastaza River shore, divided by teams if is a group with some of members of the rafting national team of Ecuador, experience a level 3-4 water rafting. Today lunch will be late so we suggest bringing snacks with you.
Free afternoon. Get back to the Hotel around 4 pm. Option to go to the hot springs and relax. Enjoy a Salsa night with our local guest, the most popular club in town, and learn salsa with us.
DAY 9
BANOS – QUITO
Today is completely at leisure to enjoy one of 4 best SPA in South America; it’s included the use of swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, at the time that you prefer. In the afternoon we drive back to Quito about three hours.
Farewell dinner and overnight in hotel.
DAY 10
QUITO – USA
Transfer to the airport or you can continue the adventure to Galapagos Island or in the rain forest of Amazon.
